Texting and Driving
There are is an alarming number of drivers who are distracted because they are texting or otherwise using a cell phone.
A recent study by the Federal Communications Commission demonstrates the dangers of texting while driving:
- Over 8 people are killed and 1,161 are injured daily in incidents reported as distraction-affected crashes in the United States.
- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that in 2015, there were 3,477 people killed and an estimated additional 391,000 people injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers.
Not only is texting while driving dangerous, it is also illegal. In Kentucky it is illegal to text and drive. Read the law here.
What can you do to help?
Make a conscious effort to put your cell phone away when you operate a vehicle. If you are driving a vehicle and have passengers who are not yet of legal driving age, set an example.
